On this day in 1936...

On this day in 1936...

Today is the 19th of June. On this day 90 years ago a baby girl was born into this world on a small farm on the top of a Welsh hill. Her name was Gwyneth and without her, there would be no me.

We almost didn't meet, but she fought her failing kidneys so that she cold live to see me.

Gwyneth was my Nain, my Grandmother.

I called her Nanny.

I count my lucky stars that I spent my first 18 years growing up on the farm next door to hers. She tried (and failed) to teach me how to grow flowers but I had no interest in that at all and spent that time dancing around her garden in my own little world instead.

However, she was the one that taught me how to sew.

At the time, turning the handle of that old Singer sewing machine seemed like just a simple skill. Looking back, it was actually the foundation of what I do today. Each scrunchie, clutch bag and purse I make is made with the sewing skills she introduced to me when I was 9 years old.

So, today is the 19th of June.

While I won't post Nanny a 90th Birthday card, because I know not even a 1st class stamp can reach her up there.

What I do know is that her skills, her patience, and her spirit live on with me through every single Barn Dancer stitch.

Penblwydd Hapus, Nanny.

P.S I still have no interest at all in growing flowers.
